Black Clawson Converting Machinery, Inc. Unveils State-of-the-Art Window Film Line at Commonwealth Laminating & Coating, Inc.

Martinsville, VA-Black Clawson Converting Machinery, Inc. recently announced the completion of the world’s most technically advanced window film production line at Commonwealth Laminating & Coating, Inc. (CLC). The addition was as part of the company’s $6 million plant expansion.

“Our goal is to become one of the leading window film producers in the world. This expansion gives us the technical capability and capacity to accomplish that,” says Steve Phillips, CLC president and Chief Executive Officer.

After a lengthy process for approval and specification input, CLC chose Black Clawson for the project.

“They came to us with a vision of creating the world’s best production facility,” says Chuck Hubbard, District Sales Manager at Black Clawson. “It was an immense challenge, but we worked closely together to design a custom line that truly sets a new standard in terms of production efficiency and quality.”

“We have ambitious plans for our company. With this new line, we’re increasing capacity, improving turnaround times, and enhancing the quality of our product,” adds Phillips noting that CLC expects sales to increase from $22 million in 2004 to $50 million over the next three to five years.

The new 74" tandem coater/laminator features two in-line coating operations, allowing for greatly improved yields, throughput, and product quality. This line offers automatic splicers on both unwinds and rewind, enabling continuous operation at speeds up to 250 feet of film per minute.

The new line employs leading-edge technologies, such as the Black Clawson Integrator II(TM) supervisory control system (for better data logging, data tracking management, and control), an advanced UV curing system from Fusion UV Systems, Inc., a sophisticated AC Vector Drive by Eurotherm Drives, and two state-of-the-art Megtec systems with a thermal oxidizer.
